Dominic Raab: Time for us to reset skewed 'human rights'
The summer riots of 2011 left a scar on communities ravaged by looting and destruction, and shocked the country.
After police commanders were caught on the back foot, the innocent victims, local communities and public at large expected proper justice to be meted out.
The courts jailed over 1,000 people for a combined total of almost 2,000 years, recognising the need to impose sentences that would deter a repeat of such mindless violence.
Two hundred foreign nationals were convicted of pillage.
Damian Green, then the immigration minister, spoke for the country when he said: “We strongly believe that foreign national lawbreakers should be removed from the UK at the earliest opportunity.”
