Meeting of the U.S.-Honduras Bilateral Human Rights Working Group

The United States and Honduras held the second meeting of the Bilateral Human Rights Working Group on July 31 in Washington, DC.

The Working Group was an opportunity for high-level U.S. and Honduran officials to discuss bilateral collaboration to improve the human rights situation in Honduras. Meeting sessions addressed three themes: strengthening human rights institutions, combating impunity, and security sector reform. The two delegations discussed refining engagement mechanisms for reporting on human rights initiatives and the status of human rights-related cases pending in Honduran courts.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Jane Zimmerman, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Liliana Ayalde, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Todd Robinson led the U.S. Government delegation. Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ana Pineda and Honduran Ambassador to the United States Jorge Hernandez led the Honduran delegation, which included representatives from the Ministry of Security and the Attorney General’s Office.
