CAR to investigate former president Bozize for human rights abuses
The Central African Republic is to investigate ousted president Francois Bozize for human rights abuses, CAR national radio reported Saturday.
Bozize, who was ousted by a rebel alliance in a March 24 coup, is facing prosecution for crimes committed by him and his family, the report said.
As Seleka rebels took control of the capital, Bangui, Bozize fled to Cameroon and then sought asylum in Benin.
The rebels accused Bozize of breaching a 2007 peace deal and launched an offensive in December. The landlocked country of 4.5 million people has been plagued by instability since its independence from France in 1960.
Bozize took power in a 2003 coup and his rule was marked by conflict among various armed groups.
