MoI holds Human Rights in Security training
Some 18 police officers have completed the second five-day training on “Human Rights in Security Work” conducted by the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Aimed at spreading a culture of human rights among the police forces, participants concluded their training on Thursday in a ceremony held at the Capital Security Department.
The Human Rights Department (HRD) of the MoI in association with Police Training Institute conducted the workshop with a number of lectures of academicians specialized in the field of international law and human rights.
Colonel Abdulla Saqr Al Muhannadi, MoI HRD Director, stressed the importance of respecting human rights by law enforcement personnel saying that in the last five years HRD has already implemented several programs aimed at spreading human rights culture among MoI personnel.
The workshop had taught participants about human rights concept and familiarized them with international documents of human rights relevant to the security work thus adding a human dimension to the police performance, the importance of human rights in Shariah and the basics of human rights in Qatari legislation and legislative instruments of the Ministry.
Dr Osama Al Alousi, legal expert at HRD gave a lecture on national system of human rights in the institutional legal framework and international covenants on civil, political, economical and social rights. Dr Yousuf Obaidan, Vice President of National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), lectured on ‘Human Rights in Qatari Law’ while Dr Hasan Sayed, Professor at law college of Qatar University on judicial control of constitutionality of laws and judicial control on actions of management.
Dr Mostafa Abdul Latheef, legal expert at MoI gave a lecture on liability resulting from abuse of power by law enforcement officials. Dr Fouzy O Siddique, legal expert at Qatar Red Crescent, presented a lecture on the basics of legal humanitarian culture while Dr Mohammed Saeed Al-Tayyeb expert at human rights office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on convention against torture and on human rights council.
