MP probes if Kargil hero was named dacoit, killed

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission on Saturday took suo motu cognisance of newspaper reports and decided to probe the death of a Kargil war soldier who was killed along with three others in an alleged police encounter in the Baknasa ravines of Bhind district on August 22.

The State Human Rights Commission has asked police officers working with the Commission to investigate the alleged encounter and submit a report.

Amjad Khan, who served the Indian Army for 10 years and had fought in the Kargil war in 1999, was declared a dacoit and the Bhind district Police are claiming to have gunned him down in an encounter.

Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Chaudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi and Congress MLA from Lahar constituency in Bhind district Govind Singh have demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

They alleged that the Bhind Police, led by the district superintendent of Police Chanchal Shekhar, have killed four persons in a fake encounter for gallantry medals. Mr Govind Singh said that Amjad was not a dacoit but an active Congress worker.

Amjad’s wife, Yasmin has alleged that her husband was picked up from home and killed by the police.

Addressing mediapersons at the State Congress headquarters here, she said that Amjad was not wearing a khaki uniform when he left home but was found wearing a khaki dress after the “so called” encounter.

The Bhind district police earlier claimed that four members of dacoit Ranju Banjara gang were killed in an encounter in the ravines near Baknasa village on August 22.
