Seminar on protection of human rights

HUBLI: KLE Society's PC Jabin Science College, Hubli, will organize a UGC-sponsored seminar on `Promotion and protection of human rights' on Saturday at 9 am for degree and post graduate students.

Briefing reporters here on Tuesday, P C Jabin Science College principal V B Hiremath said the seminar will be conducted to create awareness on human rights among students. This will develop transformation, reduce misunderstanding and collective efforts to address inequalities, injustices, abuses at home, work and prison.

The seminar is also aimed at learning human rights as a guideline for moral, political and legal concerns and choices. It also helps to shape our ideology, attitudes and behaviours, he said.

He said students are invited to present papers on various issues including human rights acts, rights of women and students and remedies for human rights violations etc.

The best three papers will selected and cash award of Rs 1,000, Rs 750 and Rs 500 rupees will be given, respectively. Students can submit the paper through mail jabincollege@yahoo.co.in or www.jabincollege.com, he added.

During technical sessions, Ratna Bharamagoudar will talk on women's and students' rights. C S Patil, principal of University Law College, will speak on human rights enforcement machinery and Manjappa, director of Law University, will talk on provisional of the Human Rights Act.

S R Nayak, chairperson of Human Rights Commission, will inaugurate the seminar and deliver the key note address.
