Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was sensitive towards human rights, says I A Rehman
Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was more sensitive towards human rights violations than other heads of state in Pakistan and human rights activists missed her very much. These views were expressed by Chairman of Human Rights Commission I. A. Rehman, while talking to APP here on Saturday.
I. A. Rehman paid tributes to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto for her remarkable struggle towards the restoration of democracy and provision of basic rights to the masses. He said that as a top political leader of the country, BB's death was a great loss for the whole nation, especially the human rights activists who lost a brave supporter of the rights of common people.
The HRCP Chairman was of the view that as a human rights activist, he found BB Shaheed as a woman having close attachment to the basic rights of poor masses. The PPP-led present government should follow the legacy and far-sighted vision of BB Shaheed to ensure the provision of human rights and relief to the common man of this country, I. A. Rehman added.
The HRCP Chairman said that Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had a clear and bold stand against terrorism and extremism in the country following which she sacrificed her life but not compromised on principles. Recalling BB's vision on international relations, I. A. Rehman said that she had God gifted capabilities to deal with international fronts.
Current foreign pressure on Pakistan, he observed, could have been dealt more effectively under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, as she had better skills to overcome crises and the foreigners always showed positive attitude towards her thinking.
The PPP leadership and the current government should follow the direction set by Benazir Bhutto Shaheed based on reconciliation in letter and spirit to overcome the prevailing political crises in the country, the HRCP Chairman said. He was of the view that BB Shaheed during her governments gave people friendly policies to provide relief to the poor segments of society and present government also should follow her line.
