Ensuring human rights for all stressed
Speakers at a post-rally discussion here Saturday called for ensuring human rights for all for the sake of institutionalisation of democracy together with reducing the existing gap between poor and rich.
They also underscored the need for ending violation of human rights in every section of the society especially the poor and underprivileged groups.
Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) and Shaw Unnayan jointly organized the discussion titled "Raise Voice to remove disparity" at Fudkipara Open Monch in observance of the World Human Rights Day-2010.
In her address of welcome, PSTC Regional Director Shamsunnaher Mina gave an overview of her organisation's activities relating to human rights.
With President of Health Rights Movement Mozammel Haque in the chair, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Convener of Conscious Citizens Committee Prof Abdus Salam, President of Rajshahi Union of Journalists Akbarul Hassan Millat and Convener of Rajshahi Rakkha Sangram Parishad Jamat Khan.
The speakers viewed that the country's education and healthcare services are gradually being commercialised resulting in deprivation of the poor and marginalised peoples from their fundamental rights creating a social discrimination.
Earlier, a large number of people from various volunteer organisations brought out a rally and paraded the city streets before being converged into the meeting venue. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and Development) Subal Bosh Moni led the rally.
