Conference illustrates human rights' progress
LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- A conference at UW-L highlights the importance of human rights on an international scale.
This is the first year for the conference. Organizers welcomed students, staff and the general public.
The goal is to raise awareness of what it means to have human rights and work to make sure all receive those rights.
People will get an in-depth look at how global human rights changed since the United Nations declared human rights for all in the 1940s.
"There are issues of people being allowed to voice their opinions. There's issues of slavery and human trafficking. Human rights are all around us, and human rights violations are all around us and we need to be aware of them," says Deborah Buffton, conference organizer.
The conference runs through Saturday.
