Stop reality shows of children, state rights panel tells police
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) on Saturday directed the Hyderabad police commissioner to stop forthwith all reality shows violating child rights on television channels in the state.
This follows protests by several parents against Aata-5, a reality show on Zee Telugu channel. Parents had lodged a complaint with the APSHRC that the show featured children dancing in an obscene manner. APSHRC chairman Justice B Subhashan Reddy directed the police to ensure that such programmes are immediately stopped.
"Such shows are spoiling both the health and studies of the kids and parents should desist from sending their wards to participate in such programmes," Justice B Subhashan Reddy said. The commissioner was further directed to see whether any similar programme was being telecast on other TV channels including in the advertisement under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986 and to exercise similar powers for prohibiting their transmission and to file compliance report before the commission on June 14.
"The dances which are made to perform by the children are based on cinema songs with indecent gestures and gyrations," he said.
