Senate Urged to Swiftly Confirm Power

Washington, D.C. – Human Rights First urges Members of the Senate to quickly confirm Samantha Power as Ambassador to the United Nations. Power’s nomination hearing this morning demonstrates her lifelong commitment to American values and human rights, noted the organization.

“Ms. Power’s answers during this morning’s hearing confirm what many of us have known about her for a long time: that she a staunch and outspoken advocate of American leadership on human rights,” said Human Rights First’s Tad Stahnke. “Her testimony laid out a comprehensive vision for U.S. policy that has human rights at the center and lives up to our nation’s values. We urge the Senate to act swiftly to confirm her so she can begin her important work at the U.N.”

Human Rights First also congratulates members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for constructively engaging with Ms. Powers and questioning her on the role of human rights in U.S. diplomacy and the United Nations.

Samantha Power delivered a keynote address at Human Rights First’s Human Rights Summit last year. For more information or to speak with Stahnke, contact Brenda Bowser Soder at BowserSoderB@humanrightsfirst.org or 202-370-3323.
