Human rights case against cop
Purusharth Aradhak
NOIDA: A complaint was lodged with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) by a resident wherein the victim has alleged that he was brutally thrashed by the SHO of the Phase-II police station for no fault of his. Interestingly, the accused police officer is an Arjuna awardee in wrestling.
The accused has also alleged that when he went to file the complaint, he was threatened with dire consequences inside the SSP camp office. Moreover, this is not the first time that a complaint has been lodged against the accused cop. Earlier, he had allegedly beaten up a lawyer in sector 47.
Speaking to TOI, the victim Mohit Arora, who runs a mobile phone shop in sector 22, said that on June 2 around 8.45 pm the accused cop, Anuj Chowdhary ordered him to install some software in his mobile phone. However, as the software was not available, the victim asked him to wait for three days. "The SHO turned violent when I told him that. When I told him that I would file a complaint against him for abusing and threatening my life, he claimed that no one would be able to do anything to him as he was relative to people holding high posts in the administration and police," said Arora.
When the victim went to file a complaint with the SSP Gautam Budh Nagar, he was called to the SSP camp office in sector 27. "The enraged SHO came there with his associates and not only misbehaved, but also thrashed me in front of PRO NK Singh. The SSP was not present in the camp office at that time. I then went to the district hospital and doctors told me that one of my ribs was broken," Arora said.
Mohit also filed a complaint with DGP Karamvir Singh, who had come to Noida along with principle secretary (home) on Monday. "My family and I are under constant threat. The SHO had threatened me that he will book me under fake cases and I should withdraw my complaint. As I felt that the police would not help me out, I went to the NHRC," the victim added.
The accused, Anuj Chowdhary, however, has denied that he had beaten the two accused persons. "These are nothing but wild allegations against me. I think someone has hatched a conspiracy to discredit me," said Chowdhary.
When asked about this case, SSP Gautam Budh Nagar Jyoti Narayan said that the matter was being investigated and an ASP level inquiry has been set up. However, ASP Alankrita Singh, who is leading the investigation, claimed that the police have not been able to get in touch with the victim. The victim, however, claims that he has been to her office twice.
Mohit is not the only victim of the SHO's wrath. A Noida-based lawyer was also allegedly thrashed and threatened by him. The lawyer had filed a complaint with the SSP on June 1, 2011, but so far no action has been taken. The complainant, Niranjan Singh Bidhuri, a resident of A-block in sector 47 said that even he is scared about what the SHO might do to hush up the case.
