Report calls for better human rights structures
A new report out today is calling for the reform of promotion and protection of human rights in Ireland.
The report, entitled 'Your Rights. Right Now' has been produced by a coalition of 17 non-governmental organisations and trade unions after a nationwide consultation process.
The report identifies gaps in Ireland's respect for a wide range of civil, political, economic and social rights.
"In this report we’re calling for the creation of an effective national structure for example an Oireachtas sub committee or a cabinet sub committee which has the specific task of making sure that international best practice is implemented in Ireland," said Mark Kelly, director of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties.
