Iran protests French human rights abuse
In a complaint letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the UN Human Rights Commission, Chairwoman of the Human Rights Subcommittee of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Zohreh Elahian criticized certain countries for abusing human rights.
Human rights are deemed as among important issues of international laws, she said, adding that most countries claim that they are committed to human rights norms.
"However, some countries are currently taking advantage of this humane and moral phenomenon to put a cover on discrimination and injustice in their own countries," she went on to say.
"This valuable human achievement has been turned into a pretext to exert pressure on countries which seek to maintain their independence," the lawmaker noted.
She pointed to the social, political and cultural situation in France and said in a country which claims it supports human rights and fundamental freedom in the world, blatant violations of human rights is on the rise.
She further added that the growing cases of disrespect to human rights in France have raised concern among international human rights bodies and public opinion of the world.
Elahian called on the UN chief to pursue the repeated cases of human rights breach in France and to dispatch representatives to the country to raise the issue with French officials.
She also urged Ban to adopt strategies to stop the violation of the rights of French people and to oblige the country's officials to give response to the international community and remove ambiguities in this regard.
France has been hit by several nationwide strikes in the past two months in opposition to a planned pension reform that would increase the minimum retirement age from 60 to 62 and the full state pension age from 65 to 67.
