TEHRAN (FNA)- Rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazzem Jalali reiterated on Sunday that Iran's presence at the Inter-Parliamentary Union's Human Rights Committee meetings has produced positive results.
Jalali flew to Switzerland last Tuesday to represent Iran at the meeting which had began work at the IPU headquarters in Geneva on Monday and last for three days.
The committee which studied more than 300 cases of the violation of human rights in different countries consists of five members as representatives of the five world continents.
During the IPU's recent meeting in Thailand, Jalali was elected as the representative of Asia and Oceania at the Human Rights Committee.
The IPU is an international organization established in 1889. It was the first permanent forum for political multilateral negotiations.
Initially, the organization was for individual Parliamentarians, but has since transformed into an international organization of the parliaments of sovereign States. 153 national parliaments have received IPU membership thus far
