Foreign minister at African Commission on Human Rights
Luanda – Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Assunção dos Anjos, Friday left for Banjul, Gambia to represent the country at the 47th session of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, running from 12-26 May.
Angop learnt that during the forum representatives from member states, inter-governmental organisations, national institutions of human rights and non-governmental organisations will address on the situation of human rights in Africa.
Cooperation and relation among national institution of human rights and of non-governmental organisations are also high on working agenda.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Angola at the said meeting initiates a new phase of relations with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, which guarantees a more regular and consistent presence of government at this forum.
It also notes that the new Government's stance is in the result of the end of the war, which allowed it to deal with priority the extension of the State throughout the country, promoting reconciliation and national reconstruction and the advent of the current democratic process.
The minister is being accompanied by the Interior deputy-minister for Penitentiary Services, José Bamokina Zau, the provincial assistant Attorney General, Paula Furtado and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
