Human Rights Report: Afghan Women Mistreated

(Kabul) - Afghan women suffer endemic violence and are among the most impoverished and least educated in the world, according to a report by Human Rights Watch.

The group alleges the Afghan government fails to protect women from rape and even murder.

Human Rights Watch contends many Afghan women don't seek help out of fear of retaliation and police abuse and corruption.

The 96-page report cites cases in which women in public life have been murdered, rape victims prosecuted for adultery and rapists pardoned by the government.
