Action plan on Children launched
The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has launched an action plan on child protection aimed at safeguarding the welfare of children in the country.
Officiating at the launch in Lusaka this morning, EFZ board chairperson Joe Imakando said the protection guidelines are in conformity with the national child policy devised by government.
Bishop Imakando expressed displeasure at the escalating levels of child abuse in the country and further called on the church to devise appropriate programmes aimed at protecting the rights of children.
He said the guidelines will also help clergymen to remain committed in offering spiritual and material assistance to children who fall pray to abuse.
And Human Rights Commission Information Officer Simon Mulumbi said the commission will strongly support efforts to improve and protect the welfare of children in the country.
Mr. Mulumbi therefore urged the church to implement the guidelines stating that there is need for concerted efforts in alleviating child abuse.
