Human Rights and Social Development Minister Praise Bahrain's Progress

By Kingdom of Bahrain

MANAMA, Bahrain, Aug. 6, 2011 -- /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a recent interview with Al Watan newspaper, Human Rights and Social Development Minister Dr. Fatima Al Balooshi praised the government of Bahrain's commitment to change and reform in light of recent events, the Bahrain News Agency reports.

"The government's initiatives to lift the State of National Safety, establish the independent Royal Fact-Finding Commission, call for a National Dialogue engaging all parties, release of detainees and reinstatement of dismissed workers reflects the kingdom's long human rights record and the government's commitment to them," Dr. Al Balooshi said.

She also spoke about Bahrain's long standing interest in human rights and noted that Bahrain was one of the first Arab countries to align themselves with international human rights conventions, the Bahrain News Agency report continues.

Dr. Al Balooshi also asserted that the recent uprisings are not a reflection of the Bahraini people as a whole.

"The events that gripped the kingdom recently are in disharmony with the beliefs of the loyal Bahraini people, indicating that the country is willing to address the issue appropriately," she continued.
