Awareness camps by Telangana Human Rights body

HYDERABAD: To bring awareness on human rights in rural areas, the All India Human Rights Association (AIHRA) will be launching awareness programmes across Telangana region from the first week of August, said S Anjaneyulu Goud, chief of AIHRA, Telangana region.

Speaking at press conference here on Thursday, he said that the number of honour killings and dowry cases in the state are increasing every year particularly in rural areas. Hence the AIHRA wants to focus on these issues.

After announcing the names of newly nominated members of AIHRA for Telangana region, he said that most human rights violations were happening on women because 80 per cent of them do not know of their rights. The Human Rights Commission is not working properly as there are 600 pending complaints and it does not have enough staff and even a chief commissioner, he pointed out.

He said the government had not initiated steps like appointment of additional collectors to prevent atrocities on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.

AIHRA's newly nominated body for Telangana region is - chief S Anjaneyulu Goud, chief secretary Ravindernath Goud, secretaries Sanem Chandra Shaker, Lingala Basavaraj Goud, Chagapuram Anil Goud, joint secretaries Aravinda Kumar Lingala, Kandiknati Premanath Goud, organizing secretary Obaidullaa Mohammed, legal advisor V Sunil Kumar, press secretary Prakas Shaga Bandi and publicity officer Mudthala Mahesh Goud.
