MANILA, Philippines—Two hundred Metro Manila police underwent a human rights seminar in preparation for the security plans for Labor Day set for Sunday, a police official said Wednesday.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Nicanor Bartolome said that 200 lawmen from the Regional Public Safety Battalion participated in the seminar given by the Regional Human Rights Affairs Office (RHRAO) and a training team from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
Bartolome stated that the seminar sought to remind their men of the police force's strict adherence on human rights when they handle security assignments for marches, street protests, ralliers and demonstrations.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Human Rights Affairs Office (RHRAO) chief Superintendent Datumama Mukhalid stated that they would be in close coordination with the CHR and would be holding regular human rights seminar for the PNP personnel.
Mukhalid said that similar seminars for Metro Manila police had been planned out for the third and fourth quarter of the year.
Another human rights seminar was slated for Saturday, Bartolome stated, this time "for the benefit of other police personnel at the NCRPO headquarters, as they may also be deployed when the situation in the streets warrants it."
