Unity, change of mindset a key to protection of human rights

ISLAMABAD: Entire nation needs to be united on human rights issue to ensure protection of human rights besides the mindset of our society needs to be changed, senior leader of Pakistan People's Party and lawyer Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan here on Friday.
"It is the time that politicians, government servants, members of civil society, and others play their role in letter and spirit to ensure that sanctity of human rights remains unharmed," said Ahsan while speaking at a ceremony as chief guest.
Leadership for Environment & Development - LEAD Pakistan organized the event on Human Rights titled "A Right Delayed is a Right Denied".
The event began with a launching ceremony of the compendium of case studies. LEAD Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Ali Tauqeer Sheikh on the occasion that they advocated the realisation of human rights as part of their agenda of promoting sustainable human development.
"The present publication on human rights issues in Pakistan attempts to enhance the understanding of the country's human right paradigm. The various case studies attempt to expose and analyse Pakistan's numerous challenges in this regard," he said.
Ahsan said societies that progressed years ago focused on the right to inquiry, right to be different and right to benefited of doubt. "For any significant change in the condition of human rights, the society should lead from the forefront along with the parliament and the judiciary," the renowned lawyer said.
He said that they should shed the image of superiority, inferiority and should not carry such complexes. "We should not repress our youth and they should be given the right to ask questions and inquire," he said.
