BANGALORE: Buying a secondhand mobile phone proved too dear for an auto driver. Police tracked the mobile phone as a stolen one. Mico Layout police station then picked him up and he was beaten and tortured for no fault of his.
Later, the State Human Rights Commission raided the Mico Layout police outpost in Vijaya Bank Colony on Bannerghatta Road along with an NGO and seized articles used for torturing and giving electric shock.
Pervez was allegedly picked up at 4 am on February 1 from his house. He was kept in police custody and tortured till February 8 and let off after registering a petty case.
He said he was forced to accept crimes he never committed. After his release, Pervez registered a complaint with the SHRC.
The complaint says he was at home when eight policemen claiming to be from the CCB picked him up from his residence. When his family protested, they allegedly abused and manhandled them. The SHRC registered a case against four constables - Raju, Moses, Suresh and Mohan.
